When Harry Met Sally may seem like your average romantic comedy from the get go, but it’s so much more than that…join us as we introduce to you the single best rom com in cinematic history. Not only did the film establish Meg Ryan as America’s sweetheart, it has been the golden egg of what Hollywood has been trying to emulate for decades. The movie has great dialogue (it was written by the incredible Nora Ephron), that balances between smart and funny and is just truly charming. And of course, we’re still asking each other the same big question: can (straight) men and women really be just friends?

While you ask yourself that question, you won’t be able to escape the opposites attract chemistry created by Sally’s Albright sweet personality and Harry’s Burns funny pessimism. We also can’t forget about the fabulous Carrie Fisher and charming Bruno Kirby, who are just the perfect compliment in this complicated relationship story.
Re-watching the film today is a trip down memory lane, it’s a reminder of that 80’s Hollywood greatness and a great feel good movie.
So cancel your plans tonight, go on Netflix, enjoy this classic and thank us later. Meanwhile, let’s round up all the reasons why this movie is everyone’s favorite after so many years:
1. The music will make you want to move to New York immediately

From Louis Armstrong to Ella Fitzgerald, you’ll be shazaming every song non stop. And as Frank Sinatra said: New York, New York, New York…the music is the perfect compliment to a movie in the Big Apple and will give you all the songs you need for your new Spotify Playlist or you could just listen to ours: Classics For The Soul!
2. The charming faux-documentary vignettes throughout the film
The clips of the fictional longtime married couples telling how they met and how they fell in love are just beautiful. And while they may seem like the most romantic comedy cliché ever, don’t worry, they will surprise you. And hey, we’ll never say no to any celebration of long lasting love.
3. Nothing is better than the Harry’s character development

There are not many romantic comedies or even movies where you can see a character actually grow up not just physically, but mentally. So forget about all the stereotypes, this movie is about a guy growing up out of his immature ways and a woman finding out what she wants in life. And what about timing? They don’t really rush into things, they make sure that the other person is ready for what’s coming, and that their love was born out of friendship. Besides, they bring us one of our favorite quotes ever: – “what’s the statute of limitations of an apology? – 10 years”.
4. Expect the unexpected
Yes, they seemed like opposite people who liked and wanted different things at first glance. But all those cliché moments presented in the movie are not gonna end up the way you think, from double dates to new years eve kisses. When Harry Met Sally makes sure to give us all those feel good moments that we’re craving in a romantic comedy, but also brings all the unexpected details that we didn’t see coming. And if you don’t believe us, stay tuned for their conversation in the diner about sex.
5. Can we talk about the orgasm scene at the restaurant?

In probably one of our favorite and most famous scenes in the whole movie, Sally represents every woman in the world telling Harry (sadly) a thing or two about faking an orgasm. But hey, she makes a pretty good point letting him know that he is probably not Superman in bed. #SorryNotSorry
6. Last but not least, Sally is the fashion icon we need
From that infamous green velvet dress at Marie’s and Jess’ wedding to her signature turtlenecks and blazers, Sally’s style could be a complete guide to follow for office looks or to recreate the steps of Annie Hall. And how can we forget about the ode to high waisted jeans for men and women, and of course, probably the best supporting actor in this movie, Sally’s iconic hairstyle just like Rachel’s hair in Friends.
All these points, take us to the conversation starter, Sally is not a fool falling for the wrong guy with all the red flags but Harry does make a point, and we’re wondering which team are you on?
